Apple Notes is free and already on my phone. Why would I pay for Apptly?
If Apple Notes does everything you need, you probably shouldn't. It's fast, private, and deeply integrated with iOS. Apptly is worth considering when you want your notes to do more — automatically connect ideas, summarise long notes, transcribe voice memos, or work on Android or Windows. If those things aren't important to you, Apple Notes is a perfectly good tool.
Is Apptly's privacy as good as Apple Notes?
Both are strong. Apple Notes stores content in iCloud with encryption, and Apple processes very little of your note content. Apptly stores notes with end-to-end encryption and runs AI features on-device — note content never touches a server to power AI. The privacy models are similar in principle; the key difference is that Apptly's AI features work without any cloud processing, whereas Apple Intelligence features (where available) involve some server-side processing for certain functions.
Can I import my Apple Notes into Apptly?
Yes. Export your notes from the Apple Notes app (select notes → share → export as PDF or text) and import the text versions into Apptly. It's not a one-click migration, but it works. We're working on a more seamless Apple Notes import for a future update.
Apple Notes search is already pretty good. What does Apptly's search add?
Apple Notes uses full-text search — it finds notes containing the exact words you type. Apptly's search is semantic as well as full-text, which means it understands meaning rather than just matching strings. Search "focus and deep work" and Apptly surfaces notes about concentration, distraction, and productivity even if those exact words aren't in them. For small note collections the difference is minimal. For large archives built up over years, it's significant.
Does Apptly work on Windows? I use a Mac at home but Windows at work.
Yes. Apptly has a Mac app, iOS and Android apps, and a web app that works on any browser including Windows. Your notes sync across all of them. This is one of the most common reasons Apple Notes users switch — it doesn't travel outside the Apple ecosystem.
