Obsidian has a huge plugin ecosystem. Apptly seems much simpler — is that intentional?
Deliberately, yes. Obsidian's plugin ecosystem is powerful and also one of the main sources of setup overhead — finding plugins, keeping them updated, dealing with conflicts, rebuilding your setup when something breaks. Apptly is intentionally a closed, maintained system. What you get is less customisable but more reliable, and it requires no maintenance. Whether that's a tradeoff worth making depends on how much you enjoy configuring your tools.
Obsidian's graph view shows me the connections between my notes. Does Apptly have something similar?
Not a graph view. Apptly's linked notes panel shows you related notes in context as you write — a small, automatic panel rather than a visual map. If the graph view is something you actively use for insight rather than just enjoying to look at, that's a genuine difference. Most people find they use Obsidian's graph view less than they expected to once the novelty wears off, but some users find it genuinely valuable.
I've spent months building my Obsidian vault. Can I import it?
Yes. Apptly imports from Markdown files directly, so your entire Obsidian vault can be imported as-is. Wikilinks ([[note name]]) are converted to Apptly's internal link format. YAML frontmatter is stripped but the content carries over cleanly.
Obsidian sync costs extra. How does Apptly's sync compare in price?
Obsidian Sync costs $10/month on top of the free app. Apptly's Pro plan at $8/month includes sync, AI features, voice transcription, and all other Pro features. If you're already paying for Obsidian Sync, Apptly Pro is cheaper and includes more.
I love that Obsidian works without an internet connection or account. Does Apptly require one?
Apptly requires an account to sync across devices, but works fully offline once you're signed in. The AI features work offline because they run on-device. If you want to use Apptly completely without an internet connection after initial setup, that works — notes are stored locally and sync when you reconnect.
